Finka Table & Tap

This past weekend I checked out Finka Table and Tap in Miami for the first time. This place has a cool hipster vibe and the food was nothing short of incredible! Upon walking in, it is very dark, with small light bulbs hanging across the ceiling. The decor has a vintage yet modern feel. They offer great cocktails, a variety of beers, and a fully loaded bar. The food is innovative, categorizing themselves as Latin and Korean. The dishes are classic with an interesting twist. The food and drinks menu is known to change constantly. Everything we ordered was recommended by our waiter and we were not disappointed. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable.

His and Hers: In the front is the Oxtail with mushroom risotto. It was an AMAZING Oxtail, probably one of the best I've ever tried. The only thing I would say is that it was a little on the salty side, not only the meat but the rice too. I just wish they would have laid off the salt a little and I would have enjoyed it more.

Here's another picture of the Oxtail. The ambiance was really dark so it was hard getting a clear picture.

Now this is the reason I will definitely come back to Finka. This is the brisket and sweet garlic mashed potatoes. The brisket was cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth and the mashed potatoes was delicious!

LOVED this drink. This is called "Kiss from a Rose." It has vodka, watermelon, and egg white with a rose petal on top. Adorable and tasty!

Parking lot outfit of the night. Simple yet cute.
Top: H&M
Pants: American Apparel riding pants
Flats: Edge
Purse: Express

Overall, I loved Finka. Food and drinks were innovative and well made, service was wonderful, and the decor was beautiful. Oh! and it was very affordable too, the plates range from about $11 to $30 which equals a perfect date night or girls night out. One thing to note is they do not take reservations on the weekends. Our original wait time on a Saturday night was 1 hour- 1 hour and a half. Fortunately, my boyfriend knew a waiter there so we were lucky enough to seat in 20 minutes. It was jammed packed the whole night. If you are willing to wait, it's definitely worth it!

Checklist

Yay for my first official non introductory post!

As the first step to my planning I will be creating a checklist in preparation for my trip. Here it is:

  • Arranging my documents
    • Such as Passport, ID, credit cards etc.
  • Developing a budget
    • My budget is going to range from $3000- $5000 max
  • Choosing a destination
    • As of now we are planning to visit Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris, and London; that though, could change
  • Planning the dates
    • We want to leave right after my graduation so probably the second week of May; Probably May 11- 25; I'm probably spending my birthday in Italy
  • Flights Information
    • I'm using travelzoo and Kayak
  • Booking accomodations
    • I'm using AirBnB, Hostelworld.com, and Bookings.com
  • Currency exchange
    • Thinking about getting my money exchanged in the U.S. or abroad; I've heard exchange counters charge an insane percentage on exchange so banks will probably be my go-to
  • Look for a credit card with no foreign exchange purchase fee
    • Capital One and Discover are the ones I have applied for
  • Travel Insurance
    • I'm not sure if I will be purchasing this but I'm using Insuremytrip.com or Worldnomads.com
  • Getting an International Student Identity Care Card (ISIC)
    • A $25 "membership" card that offers discount at local shops and hostels around the world. It also has a minimal travel insurance
  • Rail Pass
    • I'm using EuroStar, RailEurope. I will need to check out the routes and plan our trip based on that
  • Phone arrangements
    • Decide if I will be using my phone only in Wi-Fi spots or if I should use my international roaming (expensive!)
  • APPS
    • Translators, maps, transit schedules, currency conversion, weather
    • TripIt (a travel organizer; Itinerary)
    • RailPlanner (train information with city maps and arrival and departure times)
    • GuidePal (tours, landmarks
    • TripLingo and FastTalk (translation)
    • LonelyPlanet (guide)
  • Making a copy of important documentation
    • Passport etc.

I might purchase an entire trip package. This will make things ALOT easier. I'm looking at websites such as Groupon and Trafalgar.

Hmm... wonder if I'm missing anything.

I've used guides like RickSteve.com, Lonelyplanet.com, and thesavyybackpacker.com. These are all great guides I've been using to help plan my trip and get advice from more experience travelers.

As always, comment below if you have any suggestions or if you think I'm missing anything.

Ciao~

Intro

About me

Welcome! My name is Francisca (pronounced Fran-ches-ca). I actually go by Jessica which is my middle name so that's a little easier to remember. I'm 23 years young and a student living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I'm in love with the sun and beaches so I cannot imagine leaving South Florida. I'm originally from Fortaleza, Brazil but have been living in South Florida for the majority of my life. My biggest interests are fashion, fitness, travel, food (I'm a huge foodie), and exploring hidden treasures.

I have dreamed of traveling the world since I could remember. This May I will be graduating from Florida Atlantic University with my bachelors in Management and Marketing (Yay me! It's about time), so as a celebratory gift to myself, me and my boyfriend (mostly me) are planning a trip to Europe. It will be our first time visiting so we're both extremely excited.

This blog will be mostly dedicated to my travel planning and process but I will also be posting on fashion and fitness tips and tricks. This will pretty much turn into a fashion/travel blog. I also plan on posting all about my trip when I get back. Let me know if you guys have any advice or suggestions on what you want to see me post about. I can't wait to start this journey!
